The group moved on to the site last night.

Police are now watching over a convoy of caravans, cars, horseboxes and horses.

The Bristol Port Company is expected to take action this morning to move the group on.

Student travel

A new deal has been struck to allow hundreds of students in Bristol to travel free on the city's buses.

The bus firm First has agreed young people with passes will now be able to use them whenever they want, not just to get to school or college.

It is a joint decision by First and the city council, which spends more than £200,000 a year on passes for students.

Appeal for food for hungry canines

Large dogs are eating a charity out of house and home, because they are harder to rehouse.

Each of the hungry canines at the Bristol Dogs Home in St Phillips eat seven large tins of food a week, as well as biscuits and other treats.

With 100 dogs on the charity's register at any one time, the bill for food is more than £400 each week.

People are now being asked to put an extra tin of dog food into their shopping basket to help feed the dogs.

Teddy comfort

Avon Ambulance crews will from now on be equipped with special Teddy bears, to comfort youngsters on their way to and from hospital.

Fifty of the so-called "Para Teds " have been donated by Bristol Brunel Lions Club.

They will be handed out to injured children to try to make their journey by ambulance a bit less daunting.
