Some where near Burrow Bridge 1991/1992
Got our copy of a photocopied map from the Rifes' and head out
in two cars, mine of course, and John's. We drove down loads of
little lanes trying to find the place, and eventually we did. It
was near Burrow Bridge, Stoke St Gregory maybe, it was on private
land on the left. The party had been organised by spme Glastonbury
lads and had been blagging John and Steve all day for their lights,
which, for a small token, Steve brought along his projector, and
I brought along my slide projector. It was held in someone's field,
we turned left and went up their drive, past a painted car, a mini
I think in zebra strips? with some writing on the side about the
party. We drove into their field along the track, there was a fence
where we turned right, drove along till we came to the back of the
small party, reversed up to another fence and parked. Walked parallel
to the fence, onto the track and into the actual field where the
party was being held. There were two fence separated by what looked
like a mine field, being totally wasted I was semi convinced it
was and went about telling others. Walked around the fence and into
the field, again walking parallel to the fences. The rave took place
in this cramped and rather small old army tent. Two stacks of speakers
either side of the decks, in front of the decks was a small wire
fence that was guarded, no one could walk over it. Steve set up
his lights, and I put my projector on the decks table, so I was
allowed to go behind the wire fence. Don't remember what we took
that night, but I think it was half of the clear cap I didn't do
at Perception the week or so before. The projector was left on all
night and subsequently it melted the slides and their holder. Mark
was there and that is one of the earliest times I can remember that
he started going odd. The music was very garage and fluffy, not
really our style. Loads of people there though, a warm'ish night,
sitting down next to a fire I think, and that's where I got speaking
to John Herbert about things. I will always remember what he said,
and it's one of the reasons I stopped doing drugs. He said "can
you still enjoy yourself without taking drugs." It made me sit back
and think for a bit. Simple comment raelly, common sense.
I remember we somehow got talking to these guys who had parked
their car along the back hedge. That was all very weird, can't remember
much about it. In the early morning we drove the cars right around
to the back of the tent and flashed our lights at it. The party
finished early, about eight in the morning. The generator was turned
off, then this stoned hippy person tried getting it going again
thinking that it had stopped on it's own. An argument entailed.
Got out of the field O.K. but turned left instead of right which
was the way we came. Driving down the road there were several police
cars. There were party cars parked along the road as well. Always
liked to get to the party early. That's about it for that party.
We got tons of flyers handed out, one was a yellow one advertising
Gold diggers I think, it's been roached anyhow. As did one of my
favourite flyers, John. I think the Kinder Egg faze started that
weekend. Also at the party was a hot-dog fast food van!
