Oxford 1992
This one was a bit of a disaster. Set off from the Rifleman's as
normal all kitted up from the petrol station, full of Kinder Surprises,
nicked I think, not by nme. Got to the service station and no one
new anything, so-called the convoy would come along and pick us
up. Nothing happened for ages. A small convoy moved off and we followed
like sheep as it was getting late. Drove up and down the motorway,
through small lanes and country roads trying to keep up with the
convoy. Stopped at this small village which was full of people in
the same predicament. Again the convoy went off and we followed.
Must have driven hundreds of miles trying to find it. The roads
were just jammed in ever direction with people not knowing where
to go. Drove through this wooded road where we came out onto a main
road where we took a right. Driving along this road we came across
hundreds of cars parked up along the verges, on the road and any
where they could. Drove past this closed road where the party had
to be. Drove around the duel carriage way, and doubled back on ourselves,
ended up parking in someone's drive off the road because the police
told us that we would be towed away!
Got ourselves sorted out as it was very cold, early spring I think,
and we walked down to the party down the main road that the police
had closed off. Even now I can't work out why they closed off the
road. It was a main road that was off the dual carriage-way that
everyone had parked on, it would have been better to put us down
there. The party was on the right as u walked down in this muddy
sort of car park thing, the actual rave was in a tunnel type thing,
an ex army storage facilities. Lots of hippies and types. Scored
some acid, a strawberry I think. There were loads of bad-boys pushing
drugs on the way into the party, felt a bit uneasy as they were
really up to no good, even for them. Walked down this path and turn
right into the tunnel. There were speakers at the back and the front
where the decks where set up in this army lorry. We had to wait
until about three or four in the morning for the party to start
as they didn't have a spare stylus as one had broke! Dropped the
acid, not bad, lots of horny women to trip into any way. Gave 1/4
to Steve, this was the last time I did acid or mushrooms come to
that.
When the party finally got going the music was really good, lots
of the music I had myself, the style was darkish for that time.
lots of break beats, but quality music, not really classed as jungle.
I think it was D.J. Crow or something like that. Put lots of shouts
out for Chillen' F.M. and Fantasy F.M. It seemed very London'ish
in style and music. Not a bad party when it finally got going. Loads
of bass. Again I think it was Spiral Tribe or maybe Exodus who did
the party, as it was the same lorry we saw at Castle Morton. As
usual spent some of the time in the car trying to sleep or something.
The police were driving past videoing all the cars and the occupants.
Ate my Kinder Surprise and made the figure, Bugs Bunny I think and
put it with all the others, on the dash-board and on the bumper
of the car/the rave mobile. There were loads of very strange goings
on in a field behind the car. Lots of police and plain clothes officers
we think, it was all very weird, they were speaking into phones
and stuff. They kept coming and going from the party to this field
next to a house, it was all very strange, or maybe it was jus the
acid. While all this was going on John had met someone he knew,
so he didn't see any of the going on's, which made us, the acid
casualties, look totally paranoid. Mark's lift had left without
him, and I had promised to take Chris Brown home. Unfortunately
we had to leave Chris behind to hitch home, felt bad about that.
the problem was, I didn't care who got in, I just wanted to get
home to sleep before work the next day. Got the only photo of the
night as we sped away from the party. Got home O.K. withut getting
too lost.
