Weston woods 1990/1991?

This was the party that really started it all for me. We all drove down to Brean beach or was it Weston beach, can't remember, anyway, everyone was there. Gino, the two Johns, Mike, Steve, Smithy, Dawn & Stuart, and I think a few more that I can't remember at this time. Everyone was really excited about this party, I think there was even a blow job between a certain couple in this persons car! Well, that's what was said, but can not be confirmed:-) Anyhow, that is how hyped we all were. I had my "peace pipe" out which I had bought from Out Of Africa, a hippy shop in Glastonbury, and was toking on that heavily as was everyone else. There was this Peugeot 205 1.9. GTI that was bombing up and down the beach with it's rear fog light on. I was forced, under pressure, to attempt to try and copy what he was doing, doughnuts, in my Volvo 340. So, slammed it into reverse and sped out knocking Jon over. Shit. L.O.L.???? I still don't know if I did actually hit him, or if he was just messing, but I got totally paranoid for a bit as he was threatening to sue for injury:-)) So, ended up doing a few doughnuts and that was when things started to get a bit stupid. Smithy thought it "looked good" if he and Adam stood on the back of the car doing ballet posses! while I was driving up and down the beach, hmm. We left for the party.

Took ages to find as we really did not have a clue whereabouts in Weston the woods were or where the party was. Must have ended up going around in circles many times as we kept seeing the golf club sign. After much racing around we found the long track that led to the party, it was full of cars parked both sides of us, in, on and around the trees. We managed to find some spaces for the cars, but were apart from each other and had to met up at the entrance to the woods. We entered in under the canopy together, walked for a few minutes as the music crew louder and louder as we approached. Lights became evident and it looked like it was being held in a marquee, but it wasn't to be. My perceptions of raves again shattered. I think we actually got there about 1.00am and the party was in full swing. The decks were in a van of some kind with the side door open. On top of the van were three or four projectors and lights with someone controlling them. Images from these were being shone onto white sheets that had been nailed to trees, high up and spread between the trunks. It looked very spectacular for what it was. The speakers were placed in front and to the side of the van, there was one long speaker that must have been a few metres long, and about a foot wide, very odd. It didn't really have a party atmosphere though, yes there were a few people dancing, those E'd up or pissed. The pissed ones were a mixture of hippies and beer monsters who had come up from town after the clubs and pubs had shut. Dotted around the place people had set up small fires and when one group left we commandeered theirs, this lead for a hunt for fire wood. Some huge logs were subsequently thrown on. The music went on around us as we sat and got stoned, Mike and Gino disagreed loudly and mooched off about three of four.

The music was slow and brake beaty, Fantasy U.F.O., Mr Kirks nightmare, early Kicking records were the style at that particular time. In the morning as the sun was coming up through the trees and the projectors had been turned off, with the seagulls wailing in the background, and as we froze next to a dwindling fire, a track was played that I will never forget. Even though I don't know many details about it, the voice sample has led to a quest to find it as it goes "The doors are where the windows should be, and the windows are where the doors should be." (I do now own this record which is Earth Leakage trip on moving sshadow records, its available on mp3 from my site). There are several other records that have stuck in my mind from that night, but never one so spooky. In the morning was when the party generates a certain atmosphere or feel to it. The mood totally changes and it becomes one with the environment that holds it. This party will always stay in my mind as the cornerstone to my adventures in rave-land. We drove off into the early morning sea mist, home and rest for another week.

(multimap) I guess it was near the carpark in the wood.
